About Guilderland Public Library

The mission of the Guilderland Public Library is to provide equal access to materials, programs and services to our community for lifelong learning, cultural enrichment, and enjoyment.

Established in 1957, Guilderland Public Library is a true community hub, widely known as Guilderland’s Gathering Place. We are a school district library, serving a population of over 36,000 Guilderland residents and beyond as part of the 29-member Upper Hudson Library System. GPL’s total collection (physical and digital) encompasses about 228,000 items. Upwards of 276 adult and children programs are conducted per year. Anyone who lives or works in Guilderland is eligible to apply for a library card.

In 2020, GPL embarked on a 9 million dollar building update, adding 6,555 square feet to arrive at the current space of 34,583 square feet. These recent improvements include a new children’s library, dedicated teen room, additional meeting space, ADA-compliant unisex bathrooms, enhanced safety components and green initiatives.
