Notary Public Services
Please review the information below and then make your notary public appointment.
Guilderland Public Library offers FREE on-site Notary Public Services by appointment.
- At this time, we only offer notary services in English.
- GPL notaries are required to follow all NYS laws regarding notaries public.
- The library reserves the right to refuse notary services at its discretion.
Notary Hours: Monday-Friday, 10am-4pm
What you need to bring:
- Bring a valid, government-issued photo ID, expired identification and/or photo copies cannot be accepted.
- Bring unsigned original documents to be notarized. DO NOT SIGN THE DOCUMENT(S) BEFOREHAND. The entire document must be present and completed, except the signature.
- All parties who need to sign the document(s) should be physically present at the same time to sign.
Please be aware:
- Notaries cannot notarize wills
- Notaries cannot notarize birth or death certificates
- Notaries cannot notarize marriage certificates or divorce decrees
- Notaries cannot notarize I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification) forms
- Notaries cannot certify the authenticity of a document, provide legal advice or counseling regarding documents.
- Notary services are limited, and notaries may decline to notarize unfamiliar documents or any notarization that would exceed the appointment parameters.
A notary public is not duly trained or certified to practice law. Therefore, notaries are unable to provide assistance in prescribing or determining the particular document that a patron may need; selecting the type of notarization or certificate for a given document; preparing a document or giving advice on how to fill out, draft, or complete a document; providing legal counseling or advice in a legal matter that may or may not involve a notarial act.
A notary cannot give advice or instruction regarding documents to be notarized and will not be involved in any transaction that the notary believes to be false, deceptive, or fraudulent.
