Family Search is a robust genealogical resource!
Here is what you need to know before use:

FamilySearch must be accessed from inside the Guilderland Public Library.

Do not access FamilySearch via Internet Explorer. If you are using IE, close the web browser and proceed using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.

You must create a free account to use FamilySearch. Follow the instructions on their website under “Create a Free Account.”

The Guilderland Public Library has filtered access to FamilySearch materials. Though the GPL is an Affiliate Library, FamilySearch retains the right to restrict access to certain online materials.

  • From the FamilySearch operations team: “Access rights change as FamilySearch renegotiates contracts with record custodians. Therefore, it is possible that patrons will gain or lose access to some images over time.”
  • Certain images may become restricted dependent on the number of people accessing those records at the same time.
  • Approximately 90% of FamilySearch material is viewable at affiliate locations like the Guilderland Public Library.

For 100% unfiltered access to Family Search materials, consider a visit to the Albany New York Family History Center:
Note that the Albany New York Family History Center is not affiliated with the Guilderland Public Library, and we do not control its staffing or hours.
