Interlibrary loan (ILL) is a way to request items not owned by a library in the Upper Hudson Library System (UHLS). Interlibrary loan requests will be honored if the patron’s home library is Guilderland, and if the patron has a current library card in good standing. Depending on where you live, your home library may fulfill your ILL request.

Copyright laws and lending institution policies and procedures take precedence over Guilderland’s guidelines. Most requests are filled in 2 to 4 weeks. The library does not charge for this service.

 

What We Can Request

  • Books and microform material older than six months
  • Copies of journal, magazine or newspaper articles less than 50 pages. Note: lending institutions generally charge for articles that are over 30 pages.

We cannot request:

  • Items owned by a UHLS library, request these through the UHLS catalog
  • Items priced less than $16
  • DVDs
  • Music CDs or Books on CD
  • CD-ROM software
  • Original journal, magazine, or newspaper issues
  • Copies of journal, magazine, or newspaper articles more than 50 pages
  • eBooks

Terms Of Use

  • No more than five items at a time
  • Microform is limited to in-library use
  • Other materials may be limited to in-library use at the discretion of the ILL Librarian
  • Interlibrary loan periods are short-term; items are generally not renewable

Abuse of the privileges afforded by ILL service may result in the suspension and/or termination of a customer’s ILL privileges at the discretion of the ILL Librarian.

Lending

Libraries outside of the Upper Hudson Library System may also request items through ILL.

Guilderland Items Eligible For Loan

  • Books older than 6 months old
  • Photocopies (50 pages or less)
